Proving it to myself

Since I took my break to let Damn Foot get better, I’ve been doing plenty of running but there is something I haven’t done: I haven’t run 3 miles without walking– until today. I actually ran 3.1, just to prove to myself that I could do it for the race at the end of the month, and it was slow as heck (13 min/mi pace) but yes, I can do it. So until the race, I have to work on keeping that up and getting a little faster and I’ll call that a win!

I’ve noticed that I always achieve endurance goals on days where I drag myself to the gym. Today was one of those (to be perfectly honest, I went just to get the workout out of the way so I could shower) and good things happened. By dragging myself, I must be priming my brain to have a little more willpower? Is that how it works? I can use this to my advantage…

That is often how it works with me as well. I don’t achieve speed PRs on those days, but it’s almost like, “Well, if I’m going to run, I’m going to make it remarkable for me!” And hence, endurance first.
