Race report

It’s finally over! I ran my once-yearly 5k today, and wound up with a time of 39 and some. (They haven’t released the ‘final’ times yet.) It’s 3 minutes better than last year’s time? I’ll take it.

It was a tough go though– the temperature soared to over 80 degrees today for the first time this year and it was miserable out there. By the time I got to the halfway point I was parched and panting– you know how when you try to lick your lips because they’re dry but your tongue is dry too? I was really careful to hydrate beforehand, but I think I’m just not used to the heat yet.

This was also the last run for my old Sauconys– they will be retired with honors, with over 160 miles on them. They’ve served me well, but I won’t miss the blisters. I plan on letting that line of blisters heal up and callus over, then exfoliating the crap out of it.

I am so glad this race is over. I like training for races, but I hate actually running them. But I have to have something to train for, or I won’t train…
