Welp. I just finished the first workout of Stage 6 and… it didn’t go exactly as well as I thought it would. But I did it– and now I have a place to start from.
Negative chin-ups were first. I pulled a box up to the pull-up bar and clambered up onto it and held the bar and just sort of stood there for a bit, trying to talk myself into hopping up into position. Like… I had never done that before, how do I do that? But eventually I jumped up into position and immediately flopped down. Uhh, let’s not call that a rep! The next time was better; it took about 5 seconds for me to come back down to hanging, but the last 2 reps were barely any time at all. I am not at all used to hanging by my arms, and I bet my shoulders and arms are going to be sore.
The lat pulldowns were interesting. I actually really enjoyed the method: pull down as fast as possible, and veeeerrrrry slowly return the bar to the top. My lats are weak, and I’m hoping this method finally helps me build up more strength there.
Finally, barbell split squats and pushups. For the life of me, I can’t figure out the difference between split squats and stationary lunges? But they were difficult and fun. And I did the pushups on the bench, because my arms are noodle-like.
But now I have nothing to be afraid of… I’ve tried, and now I know what I have to work on.
