Well, it’s hot as metaphorical balls out there. Usually I can deal with it, but this time there’s a problem: our air conditioner at home is broken (and repair is probably a week or more away still). We do have a small portable unit for the bedroom so we can sleep. Usually I work at home on Mondays, but I opted to go in to the office today. Since I’m here, I went to the gym and hit the treadmill for 3 miles in 37 minutes. Much nicer to run inside than out!
I’ve been finding inventive ways to not be in the house. This weekend I spent a lot of time in the pool with a book (and I have the sunburn to prove it) and yesterday I camped out at a bar for 3 hours with a game. Today I’ll probably work late, and if I get tired of work I’ll stop somewhere for a drink and catch the last train home.
Yesterday I did manage to cook the tiniest bit– I steamed some greens and boiled some somen and we had cold noodles, along with some seaweed salad that I’d thrown together earlier. Nothing like serving dinner on ice cubes! Sometime this week I’d like to make mango ice cream, too– I have a couple mangoes getting over-ripe on the counter, and the ice cream maker bowl is stashed in the freezer… Does it count as cooking if it’s cold? And will it still freeze if the kitchen is 90+ degrees?
I can’t believe you are surviving without A/C! I hope the repairs come soon!
The process is moving! And it’s supposed to be cooler tonight and tomorrow. YAY.
wow you are much more a courageous person than I! No AC for a week? I would be at a relative’s or friend’s house faster than you can say Ice!
