It’s funny how much really epic and loud music in my ears bumps up my will to workout. I put Amon Amarth’s Twilight of the Thunder God on, took a deep breath, and got to work.
Squats – 5x(145, 155, 165, 165lb)
Lunges, back foot elevated – 3x10x20, each side
Leg press – 10x(300,250,250lb)
Glute bridges – 3x10x50lb kettlebell
Leg curl (machine) – 3x10x80
Leg extension (machine) 3x10x80
I had to trick my body into squats today. After an empty bar warmup set, I loaded it up wtih 165lb, did 2 reps and made that sad cat sound "NOOOOO". So I took weight off, did a set at 145lb – felt good… added more weight, set at 155lb – felt good… then 165lb – felt good! The second set at 165lb still felt pretty good. I turned my toes in a little bit more than I’d been before, and that seemed to help. I don’t know why I’ve been having a squats block lately. I have the strength to go heavier, I just have to get my head around it.
That set of 10x300lb on the leg press is a mistake, I misloaded it– and in the set I was like "why is this so hard?" and started counting plates… I finished the set with a massive effort, but I felt a lot of strain on my lower back (just what I need, right?)
My left leg is kind of wonky now overall… my knee and ankle are complaining, and my left quad feels weird (reminds me a little of when I had meralgia paraesthetica years ago, but not numb yet). That’s the side I sleep on, it’s probably getting out of whack. Sounds like I have an appointment with the foam roller, and some yoga would be nice too…
