Evaluating goals

Squats 2 days in a row! I was feeling good (not sore!) after yesterday’s 5x5B workout so I decided to follow it with an A today. The 5×5 program is supposed to be a 3-a-week, but I only have T-F at the gym so I’ve been doing it 2 a week. The slower pace and longer break obviously helps recovery but hinders progress, so I’m trying to figure out a way to get more workouts in. Stacking them without any recovery day to fit in 3 isn’t recommended, but here we are. It might work for a while, at least until I start getting back to challenging weights.

Squat – 4x5x45lb (warmup), 5x5x125lb
Bench – 3x10x45lb (warmup), 5x5x100lb
Row – 3x10x45lb (warmup), 5x5x70lb

Speaking of challenging weights, I’m thinking about my goals (thanks New Year). I would like to be at my previous competition level and totals by the end of May. This is a pretty aggressive schedule; I’m still doing the ramp-up phase of 5×5 so not lifting near my max, but as of this week I’ll need to add 65lb to bench, 75lb to squat and 100lb to DL. (Radically compounding the challenge is me being 50lb lighter than last year; more on that coming in a post soon.) I have my work cut out for me. It’s a big goal.
